Bivarus’s more than a decade of CAHPS experience helps clinicians meet CMS compliance
DURHAM, North Carolina – June 21, 2017 – Bivarus, a patient-centered analytics company, announced today the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved Bivarus to administer the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) for Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) survey for 2017.
As an approved vendor, CMS has determined Bivarus demonstrated the facilities, project experience, and staff expertise required to conduct the 2017 survey administration with appropriate rigor, given the demands of the survey procedures and timeline.
Bivarus’s extensive experience with the CAHPS survey distinguishes the company. Bivarus was one of the few research firms invited to assess the first CAHPS survey document. Bivarus was also part of the initial group of hospital CAHPS members invited to Washington, D.C., to develop the first Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and System (HCAHPS) and has partnered with organizations on HCAHPS data collection since 2005.
The CAHPS for MIPS survey was developed to collect information about patient experience and care with groups (i.e., two or more eligible clinicians). Once a group contracts with Bivarus, data collected on these surveys will be submitted on behalf of the group by Bivarus as a CMS-approved survey vendor. For program year 2017, the CAHPS for MIPS survey will be administered during a November 2017-February 2018 timeline.
While the CAHPS for MIPS survey is optional, MIPS provides incentives for groups to participate. The CAHPS for MIPS survey counts as one measure toward the MIPS quality performance category, as a patient experience measure, and fulfills the requirement to report at least one high priority measure in the absence of an applicable outcome measure. Groups must report at least 5 additional quality measures using another data submission method.
Practices participating in the CAHPS for MIPS survey satisfy one (1) Quality Measure (ID# 321) and one (1) Improvement Activity (ID# IA_PSPA_11). Both measures are high-weighted activity.
For those practices participating in Bivarus’s Structured Assessment of the Patient Experience (SAPE) QCDR, the practice can satisfy all six (6) Quality Measures and two (2) Improvement Activities.
